Venis Hotel — Tirana, Albania

Tirana

Selitë e Vogël is a residential pocket west of the centre — squares, plane trees, and somewhere to leave the car. The city starts 2.2 km away, and the mountain 8 km after that.

2.2 KM · A1 BUS · 40 MIN ON FOOT

The centre

Skanderbeg Square, the Clock Tower and the National Museum of History are all about 2.9–3.1 km away, and Tanners' Bridge a little past them. Guests walk it in roughly forty minutes or take the A1 bus. What they say afterwards is that they were glad not to have driven.

HOUSE OF LEAVES · BUNK'ART · 2.3–7.4 KM

The twentieth century

Tirana keeps its recent history in plain sight. The House of Leaves — the former secret-police surveillance building — is 2.7 km away, Enver Hoxha's former residence 2.3 km, and Bunk'Art 1, the nuclear bunker turned museum, 7.4 km out on the edge of the city.

GRAND PARK · 820 M TO THE FIRST SQUARE

Green Tirana

The nearest of the neighbourhood's recreational squares is 820 m from the door, and there are eight more within a kilometre. The Grand Park and its lake are 2.1 km away — the city's proper green lung, and where people run in the morning.

DAJTI EKSPRES · 8 KM

The mountain

The Dajti Ekspres cable car is 8 km east, and lifts you out of the city in fifteen minutes to look back down over it. It is the standard second day in Tirana, and it is worth the standard.
